“I have no idea,” I groaned and tried to sit with my hand pressed instinctively to my abdomen. “It just hit me. The doctor couldn’t tell what was wrong with me. He suggested bringing the healer over, I’m waiting for her”
I looked around and noticed Maliya wasn’t in the room.
“Where is Maliya?” I asked.
“Oh that, she went to grab herbal soup for you,” Justine replied, looking towards the door. “She asked me to watch you while she gets the meal for you”
“Oh, thank you!” I said.
“How did you get so sick all of a sudden? You were fine a while ago. I saw you walking with Kingsley”. Justine pointed out, concern etched on her face. “Did you eat anything bad”
I shook my head, my body was searing with subtle pain.
“No, I didn’t eat anything,” I said, shaking my head. “Moreover, ingesting something wouldn’t cause that much pain, would it p>
“Don’t mind me, I’m so stupid.” Justine slapped her arm, and I chucked.
She’s so dramatic for no reason but she was only trying to care for me. And I appreciate that.
“What now?” She raised a brow, “Should I call and tell the Alpha about this? He needs to know p>

“I know,” I whispered. “That’s exactly why I don’t want him to know, not yet. If he knew I got sick, he would leave everything behind and come back here. I don’t want to interrupt the work he went to do that”

For a moment, Justine just stared at me, like she was trying to figure out whether I was brave or foolish.

“Kaia…” She reached out and squeezed my hand gently. “You’re allowed to depend on someone. Especially him p>
I breathed in shakily. “I know. But this time just let him finish. He’ll be back soon p>
Justine exhaled, torn but nodding.
“Fine. But if you faint again, if anything gets worse, I’m calling him myself p>
“Fair,” I murmured. “I agree, you can do that when it happens again”
She gave a thin smile, brushing hair from my forehead. “You scared the hell out of us, you know p>
“Sorry,” I breathed, eyes heavy. “I didn’t mean to give you a big fright like that”
“You’d better apologise to Maliya when she gets back,” she muttered, half-teasing, half serious.
I smiled weakly, but even that hurt.
Justine stayed beside me until my breathing settled, worry still etched deep on her face.
“You know what?,” Justine stood up. “Your hair looks messy, and I can’t stand it. Imagine how Theo would react seeing you this way”
She went over and grabbed a comb. She sat down and began to comb my hair, she was gentle with it.
After that, she took an ointment and massaged my scalp. It felt so peaceful and took my mind off things.
Justine made my life better just by being here, and now she’s taking care of me even when she didn’t have to.
“How can I repay you for this, Justine?” I asked, my voice cracking with emotion. “You really didn’t have to but you took such good care of me”
“We can talk about that later,” she beamed at me. “For now, focus on getting better. I can’t have the slow come

An older woman with silver-streaked braids and a satchel clutched tightly to her chest came from behind him.
It was Seira, the head healer of Shadowclaw.
I haven’t seen her in a long time, too bad we are meeting under these circumstances.

The healer stepped forward immediately, gently pushing Zane aside.

I swallowed hard as Seira’s cool fingers pressed to my forehead, then my pulse.
Her expression darkened, a quick shift I barely caught.
“What is it?” Zane demanded.
Seira didn’t answer immediately. She opened her satchel, pulling out a small vial and a strip of wolf-silk.
“Beta, I need space. And quiet.” Seira said, looking at Zane and Justine. “Can you give us some space p>
Zane nodded, stepping back but refusing to leave. His eyes stayed locked on me, filled with just worry and suspicion.
Justine wrung her hands nervously. “She was fine earlier. Then suddenly she was in pain, really bad pain p>
Zane’s jaw ticked. His mind was racing.
I knew what was running through his mind and I wasn’t ready to agree, not yet.
