I spent the night in the guest bedroom. I couldn’t go back to our room.
I didn’t want to see Liora right now, not after what she did.
Maybe I expected too much from her; Laia would never have done this to me.
Kaia knew the right step to take when it came to running a pack.
She put the people’s safety and well-being before ambition.
She knew exactly what to do and how to act.

Right now, I feel horrible to think that, despite what Kaia did, she had the best interests of the pack at heart.

My eyes drooped, but the thought of Kaia consumed my mind.
Because if Kaia were here, nothing of this sort would have happened. Liora would be resting in her room when the courier came, and Kaia would have handled the situation.
I gritted my teeth, remembering how Kaia refused to admit her crimes in the council court.
If she had admitted and apologised for what she did to Liora and then stepped aside for Liora to become Luna, I would have forgiven her, but she was too stubborn for her own good.
She was stupid, and her stupidity has caused us a lot of trouble.
I can’t blame Liora much; she has been making an effort to help run the pack, but I can’t just forget what she did.
The more I think about it, the angrier I become. The alpha lord is not an easy person to deal with.
And now that he has my seal, it would take the goddess’s intervention before he sends my pack and me into a battlefield to fight for his greedy ass.

When I couldn’t come up with a solution, I decided to reach out to Theo tomorrow and ask for his help.
He has a lot of contacts; he might be able to help the pack and me out of this mess.
When I woke up early the next morning, my head was spinning with a splitting headache.
“Get me warm lemon juice, Kaia”, I drowsily yelled out before I could stop myself.
The fucking old habit. It’s been seven months, and this old habit of calling out her name still hasn’t left me.
I stood up and walked out of the guest room. I headed to the kitchen to get the warm lemon juice by myself.
“Good morning, Alpha”, an omega greeted me when she saw me, and I nodded. I was in too much pain to answer. “Should I get you something, sir p>
“I will do it myself,” I muttered, irritation building up in my chest. “Go do your work, I’ve got this”
The omega left, and I prepared the warm lemon juice. Kaia always made this one for me when I had a hangover.
I was leaving the kitchen when I bumped into Liora. She smiled brightly at me, but I ignored her.
I was still angry; if I looked at her face, I would lose the will to stay angry, and I wanted Liora to know how much her actions affected me.
“Darling,” Liora came after me. “Can we just talk?” She asked, and I ignored her.
I gulped my lemon juice and felt my headache slipping away. That was a relief.
“What are we going to talk about?” I asked, “The fact that you endangered the pack for your selfish reasons p>
“Draven, please” Liora’s eyes were getting wet. “You know I did this for all of us, for the pack’s best interest”
“Best interest?” I scoffed, shaking my head in disbelief. “You endangered the pack for the sake of wealth and influence. How is that the best interest of the pack when we are being pushed into war because of your stupid decision p>
“I had no idea the idea came with war, I swear I was only thinking of the benefit it would bring to the pack”, Liora insisted, and my annoyance surged at her stupidity.
“You made a deal with the devil, and you thought you’d only get the best?” I clenched my fists; she was unbelievably stupid, and I couldn’t help but be offended by it.
“How would I have known? I did not know whatsoever about what he does for a living; you didn’t tell me,” Liora said, and I was offended. Now, she’s blaming me.
“So, now it’s my fault that you couldn’t use your brains? Everyone knows what kind of person the alpha lord is,” I retorted. “Except for you,” I eyed her.
“Blame me all you want, but I was only doing this for the pack.” She was in tears, shaking.

“No, you did this for your selfish reasons,” I said, annoyed. “If it were not for the pack, you would have waited for me. This is something Kaia would never do because she always weighs the pros and cons first p>
I yelled loudly before I realised what I had done. Liora looked at me, her face wet with tears.
“If you miss her so much, why don’t you remove me as Luna and reinstate her?” Liora asked quietly, and I could swear I saw pain in her eyes, and it was my fault. “You keep comparing me to her, Draven. Kaia is gone; she’s never coming back because she betrayed this pack and its people”
“It’s not my fault that she tried to kill me. Did you forget what she did so soon? Because it looks to me like you have”
“I did not forget what she did; I ousted her from the pack with my own hands. How can I forget that?” I muttered, avoiding eye contact with Liora.
“If you remember it that well, I don’t see why you keep comparing her to me,” Liora barked. “I would never do what she did, so I’m not like her. Stop making me out to be the bad guy, Draven p>
Liora left me alone in tears and ran out before I could stop her.
Suddenly, my heart broke for her. She didn’t deserve how I treated her; she was only trying to help me and fell into Jame Vance, the alpha lord’s trap.
She wasn’t at fault; the alpha lord is. I should take my anger out on him instead.
I ran after Liora, but she was nowhere to be seen when I came out of the house.
While walking around the block, I realised that neither the officials nor I have really done a welfare check on the prisoners recently.
It was early, and I wasn’t really doing much yet, so I decided to have an impromptu visit with the prisoners.
When I walked through security, the guard recognised me immediately and bowed his head in respect. I shook my head and waved at him.
“Alpha, what brings you down here?” He asked, walking me into the cell area.
“Why? Can’t I be here?” I asked, and he looked frightened.
“No! No! No! That’s not what I meant. The guard looked scared out of his mind, and I wonder how many others feared me this much. “It’s just that the alphas and the top dog barely come down here unless it’s an emergency”
“There is no emergency; it’s a routine check that we neglected for a while. I’m back to checking up on the prisons. Do expect me to be impromptu from now on”
I said and walked ahead without waiting for the flabbergasted guard to answer.
“Yes, sir. I will tell the others,” the guard said when he caught up with me.
When we got to the cell, I noticed it was empty. Strange.

“Oh, that,” I saw him scratch his head nervously. “The prisoner was released for good behaviour. There hasn’t been a replacement yet”
I nodded and moved ahead while the guard showed me a few things that needed fixing and explained.
The place needs renovation; it might be a prison, but we can’t treat the prisoners inhumanely.
“Take me to the rogues who worked with the former Luna”, I said, and the guard broke out in cold sweats.
He couldn’t say anything, and I took that as a sign that something was amiss.
“Is there a problem?” I asked, and he nodded. “Take me to the rogues”
He didn’t say anything and led me straight to where the rogues were kept.
I stood in front of the cell, confused.
“What is the meaning of this?” I turned to ask the guard after seeing the empty cells. “Where are the rogues p>
“I’m sorry, Alpha, but I have no idea where they are,” he said, his face stained with sweat.
“You are a prison guard; it’s your duty to know where the prisoners are. Damn it!” I barked, annoyed.
“I’m sorry, Alpha,” he apologised, and that only enraged me the more. “I took a week’s leave, and when I came back, the rogues were gone. I was told they were transferred to another prison, since it wasn’t my place, I didn’t question anything I was told”
“Who told you they were transferred?” I asked.
“It was a rumour circulating in the prison. Then, I confirmed it from one of my colleagues, but he didn’t have a source either”
“Alright,” I turned around to leave. “Keep this visit between us two; no other person should know I was here. Is that clear p>
“Yes, sir”. He said,and bowed his head.
I left the prison yard,my mind was blown out with questions.
I had the rogues locked up for conspiring with Kaia against Liora,they admitted their crimes and got jailed in one of the maximum prison in the pack.
There was no way they could have escaped on their own.
Something fishy is happening and I need to get to the bottom of it.
I was returning to my room when Theo’s statement flashed in my mind again.
