Then he stepped closer, he looked at me firmly.
“You’re acting like choosing Elara keeps Kaia safe. But you’re forgetting something p>
I look up at him.
Zane didnt stop. “Elara doesn’t just want the title. She wants you p>
My breath hitched for a second.
When Zane saw this, he pressed further.
“And Kaia? She’s the girl who won your heart without even trying. Elara will see that. She’ll smell it. And she will hurt Kaia the very first chance she gets-Luna or not p>
A chill ripples through me.
I know Zane is right. And I hate how true this was.
“You think announcing Elara as Luna ends this? No. It just paints a bigger target on Kaia’s back.” Zane muttered, pacing.
I felt my throat tightened with a painful lump.
“I can’t make Kaia part of this political chaos. She… she didn’t choose this life p>
“Neither did you. But here we are.” Zane replied.
My heart thunders painfully.
“So choose the chaos that protects her.” Zane suggested.
“How?” I asked. “Choosing Kais means war for the pack. I can’t put the pack in danger to keep Kais by my side. That would be selfish of me and Kaia wouldn’t approve of it”
“Fine. Then, use the nuclear option” Zane suggested and I looked at him sharply.

“Announce Kaia as Luna. Claim her.” Zane said, he looks dead serious too. “Throw the Circle into confusion and then they will reconsider the entire Luna selection process p>
“Zane-this is madness.” My eyes widened in shock.
Zane shrugs. “Not as insane as letting a viper become your Luna p>
“The Council will never accept a Luna with a powerless wolf.” I voiced.
“This is exactly why you should choose Kaia,” Zane muttered. “Choosing a powerless wolf will completely stop the marriage. At least for a while”
I ran my hand through my hair. “It’ll put Kaia in danger p>
“Everything puts Kaia in danger now. Elara wants you… which means Kaia is a threat regardless.” Zane says, gripping my shoulder.
It almost felt like I stopped breathing. I didn’t know I held my breath.
Maybe Zane is right Kaia is already in danger.
What is the worst that could happen?
“Kaia doesn’t know how I feel about her.” I said. “Nor my heart problem”
“Then tell her. For once in your life, tell someone the truth before it’s too late. Theo”
I squeezed my eyes shut.
“What if this doesn’t end well?” I asked, feeling worried. “Im afraid this plan is dangerous”
“Dangerous?” Zane scoffed. “If Kaia was in danger, would you save her p>
I didn’t think twice. “Of course. What kind of a question is that? I will never let anything happen to Kaia”
Zane nodded once. “Then stop pretending you have no choice. You always fight hardest for the one you love most p>
“If you walk into that ceremony and announce Elara as Luna, you’re not saving the pack. You’re not honoring your father’s promises p>
“You’re just lying to Kaia. To yourself.” Zane argued.
“I can’t lose her.” I sound like a broken record.
