Then he went to the living room and flipped the breaker, plunging the entire place into darkness–only the two white candles in Arthur’s bedroom were left flickering.
Arthur pointed at the circle of incense and candles, stomping his foot in exasperation. “Why don’t you just bring a couple of funeral wreaths too p>

Arthur clutched the pillow Chloe had gifted him, shrinking back to the bedroom doorway, eyes locked on Ian, looking thoroughly freaked out.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Arthur quickly turned on his phone flashlight and rushed to answer.
Chloe peered into the pitch–black room and asked Arthur, “Did the power go out or something p>
Arthur grabbed Chloe’s arm and navigated blindly. “Your bargain husband flipped the breaker on us p>
Seeing Ian coming out, Chloe couldn’t help complaining, “Why’d you cut off their power? Turn it back on, seriously p>
Ian casually slid Arthur’s hand off Chloe’s arm and turned to put the power back on.
The room lit up at last, and Chloe finally walked in.
Ian stopped Chloe. “I already lit the incense for him. You’ve got work tomorrow–just head home and get some sleep p>
Arthur, almost panicking, pointed toward his bedroom. “Chloe, your husband was just casting some spell, trying to send me away for good! Quick, you gotta take a look p>
Chloe gave Ian a glance, then stepped into the bedroom.
The thick smell of herbal medicine hit Chloe the moment she walked in, making her cough twice.

Incense smoke swirled around the room, two white candles burning on the headboard–and just looking at all of it made Chloe feel instantly out of sorts.
Not thinking twice, she quickly snuffed out the candles and incense, then yanked open the curtains.

After Chloe cleaned everything up, she dragged Ian off to the side and snapped, “How could you treat my patient like that p>
When Ian just kept quiet, Chloe hissed under her breath, “Yeah, this incense helps with insomnia, but overdose a little and you’ll poison somebody. Seriously, were you trying to smoke him out of here p>
Standing there, Ian’s face looked stormy. “Doesn’t matter how toxic it gets–nothing beats whatever poison he’s got p>
Chloe shot Ian a look, totally lost for words.
Back in the day, Ian used to be all gentlemanly and poised–never this mean or bitter.
Guess Ian had finally reached his limit with Arthur.
Arthur immediately started whining, “Chloe, how am I supposed to sleep in my room after your husband turned it into a smokehouse p>
Chloe was seriously at her wit’s end.
She had a consultation first thing in the morning, and then she still had to swing by Rowe Estate tonight.
These two were a handful.
Seizing the chance, Arthur complained to Chloe, “Chloe, I swear, this apartment must be way too close to the gates of hell–the energy here is cursed. I haven’t slept at all these past few nights, and honestly, I feel like I’m about to drop dead p>

Chloe shot lan a look. “You smoked out his whole bedroom–so what’s wrong with letting him stay at ours for just one night p>
“Seriously!” Arthur clutched his pillow, sticking close behind Chloe and shot lan a deliberately provocative look. “I’m not crawling in bed with you anyway, so what’s your big issue, man p>

About half an hour later, with the guest room all set up for Arthur, Chloe returned to the master bedroom.
Ian was sitting on the bed, brooding and motionless. Chloe climbed in, flipped off the lights, and thought, ‘Whatever, I am way too tired to deal with this right now,’ completely ignoring him.
The next morning, just as the three of them were about to head into the dining room for breakfast, the doorbell rang.

Ian looked at Chloe, who was so calm and composed, and honestly, he felt all kinds of emotions swirling around inside.
He gently grasped Chloe’s hand.
Chloe, calm and composed, discreetly tried to slip free, but Ian just tightened his grip.
Ian turned to Vivian. “Miss Monroe, you can go now. If Andrea needs me, she’ll reach out herself p>
Vivian was honestly shocked–she never expected lan to be so calm after hearing something happened to Andrea.
She said, “Mr. Hamilton, I know your wife is here and you might not want to talk openly, but honestly, everyone in our circle already knows about you and Andrea p>
Jan shot Vivian a look, and for a split second, there was a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Andrea forced an uneasy smile, brushing it off. “Maybe it’s just that his wife was there, so he couldn’t just leave p>
Hearing Vivian back her up, Andrea’s fists clenched so hard her nails bit into her palms–she could barely hide her nerves.

Andrea reached out to Miranda, asking to meet face–to–face.
